Well, every year we say the same thing.  Our annual golf day was even better than the last one.  This year, we’re pleased to say, was no different!

The Winning Team

The Winning Team - Bob's Athletic Supports

Our fourth M&S Golf Day was held on 2nd June at the same venue as last year (‘cos we liked it so much), the impressive Forrester Park near Dunfermline, and we raised over four grand – way above last year – and had an all-time high number of teams and players.

In fact, the actual total was £4,290 and we had 19 teams, which meant that one team had to start their round with the putting competition!  As you may know, we like to support a new charity every year and for 2017 we chose two - Papyrus (Prevention of Young Suicide) and SOBS (Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide), Kirkcaldy Branch.  Suicide, especially by young people, is one of the less often talked about problems in society today and we’re delighted to have raised so much money for these very worthwhile organisations.

The weather on the day was what is commonly known as ‘Scorchio’ and with the course in fine condition there was fierce competition for thePotentMix trophy – the prize donated last year by one of our clients for the best team score.  This year, it was won by Bob’s Athletic Supports consisting of Bob Young, Iain Brown, Cameron Hill and Robert Pennell.  Runners up were last year’s winners, the Luncarty Hackers, consisting of Scott McKinnon, Grant Sinclair, Brad Crockart and Ian Martin.  The Yellow Ball competition was won by Dimpled Balls, made up of Colin McKenzie, Willie McPherson, Malky Clark and Tam Stewart.

The other winners were:-

  • Men’s Scratch – Barry Logan
  • Ladies Scratch – Alison Gray
  • Men’s Nett – Eric Kerr
  • Ladies Nett – Sheila Ireland
  • Longest Drive – Iain Brown
  • Nearest The Pin – John Notman
  • Putting Competition – Neil Frazer

Steve Dand won the silent auction prize of a 4-ball at the Castle Course, which was donated by St Andrews Links Trust.  Iain Brown won the silent auction prize of a 4-ball at either the Kittocks or Torrance Course in St Andrews, donated by the Fairmont, St Andrews.

A very big thank you to our sponsors for the second year running, West End Garage Skoda, who sponsor the hole-in-one competition.  No-one won it this year, or last come to think of it (we think that the two holes in one we had on our second Golf Day may have jinxed everyone’s chances!).

Grateful thanks must also go to the St Andrews Links Trust (who support us every year) and the Fairmont, St Andrews for these very generous donations.  Also, many thanks to the Crail Golfing Society, who again support us every year by donating a 4-ball voucher for Craighead Links.  Finally, we’d like to thank all the following who donated prizes or sponsored holes:-

Thank you to everyone who supported us by entering teams and/or sponsoring a hole and, of course, everyone who played on the day and donated money.  Feedback both on the day and subsequently was very positive indeed and with the weather in such benevolent mood and the course playing so well we’re glad everyone had a splendid day.

And finally, thanks also to our very own Cally Wilkinson who every year puts so much work into the organisation of the day.  We’re already planning next year’s, which, barring any major change of plan, will once again be at Forrester Park.  If this year’s level of interest is maintained, it’s looks like it may have to be over two days!
