Chartered Tax Advisers & Accountants

About M&S Accountancy

The business was formed in 1996 by Stewart McKinnon and James Slater, and we celebrated our 20th anniversary in 2016.

Our ability to provide appropriate expertise at an affordable cost to a client, whether it is a new start up business, major PLC or multi-national has been a big factor to our growth and success.

For our varied range of business clients located in Fife and throughout the UK, we work closely with our clients to understand their business and how we can add value.  Recently, the development of inexpensive cloud accounting software packages such as Xero has enhanced the way we can work with clients to have up to date figures and provide proactive tax planning advice.  As a ‘Silver’ partner with Xero, we are at the forefront of this exciting change from traditional accounting methods and have expertly skilled staff to implement this for the benefit of our clients.

Our directors and staff are all committed to delivering excellent professional service to our clients.

Stewart is one of our tax experts and is a Chartered Tax Adviser and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners

As one of the founders of M&S, Stewart takes great pride in seeing how the business has both grown and, at the same time, retained the personal touch which has been a key component in the M&S’s success to date.  One of his main drivers is still the need to provide progressive tax planning in a format that clients can understand and this is something that is instilled in all professional staff.  Stewart is also very passionate about ensuring everybody in M&S is committed to high levels of client service.

Stewart has a wealth of experience which has helped establish the business’s reputation in providing excellent advice not only to local based clients but also those from all over the UK who have sought his expertise.  This includes implementing complex tax planning arrangements for clients and conducting specialist enquiries with HMRC where he is a fierce negotiator of his client’s position as the powers available to tax officers becoming ever more wide ranging.

Through his specialist knowledge and commitment to enhance his own professional development and also that of the other tax and professional staff, Stewart ensures that the firm is constantly at the forefront of current tax issues.  With this expertise, the priority is always to ensure that HMRC’s tax take from his clients is kept to a minimum with legitimate and affordable tax planning.
